Learning to manage chronic pain
Through a lot of trial and error, I have learned that a holistic approach gives me the best results when it comes to managing pain. There is no magic bullet and no one treatment or therapy that helps entirely on its own.

What is Pernaton Gel?
Pernaton Gel is a natural product that can be used alongside pain medication or as an alternative solution for pain relief.

The Two Pernaton Gels for Pain Relief
Pernaton Gel
Pernaton produces two pain relief gels. The first, Pernaton Gel, which has blue packaging, cools and relieves joint pain. It contains menthol and essential oils to help improve joint mobility.
It is a non-greasy formula that is quickly absorbed when applied to the problem area.
Pernaton Gel Forte
In contrast, the Pernaton Gel Forte— in red packaging– contains cayenne pepper extract and essential oils that provide a warming sensation.
Applied directly to the problem area, this warming sensation increases blood circulation and helps to soothe aching muscles.
I think it is great that they offer the two products since everyone’s preference differs when it comes to hot and cold therapy. It means that you can get the benefits from the Green Lipped Mussel extract in a way that is most beneficial to you.

I’d not come across this before. I’ve used things like Voltarol for general pain relief of muscles and joints, but I’d not heard of Pernaton. Will have to take a gander at H&B. Great post, thanks for sharing 🙂

Since this is sourced from mussels, can I use it if I’m allergic to shellfish?
Hi Kate. Unfortunately, if you have a shellfish allergy you are not able to use this product. Pernaton state in their FAQ:
“When should PERNATON® not be taken?
Persons with allergies to shellfish/seafood.
Persons who are allergic to heparin.”
Can’t rate this product highly enough! I broke my ankle 12 months ago requiring Orif surgery and bone graft. Once the cast was off I used this product daily to ease swelling and increase mobility in the joint and gentle pain relief. 6 months to the day oi broken my ankle and I was able to run 10k and firmly believe this product played a huge part in be being able to achieve that. Buy it!

I was advised to try this for pain in my back which is radiating to my hip and leg. After using it for less than a week I have improved immensely. Much less pain and a lot more movement in my joint. Highly recommend it.

Pernaton has been recommended by a friend. I have spinal stenosis with chronic pain. I’ve used Voltaren for a long time. Can you compare the two?

Hi Carol, I have never used Voltaren so I am sorry to say I cannot compare the use of the two. The only thing I can say is that Voltaren is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, whereas Pernaton contains green lipped mussel extract. This contains Glycosaminoglycans, which is found in the connective tissues, ligaments and joint cartilage within the body. The idea being it supports cartilage and joint function. So they are two completely different products. It may be worth speaking to your GP and asking if Pernaton is worth trying?
