Progress is something that happens slowly over time and kind of creeps up on you. I have definitely been feeling better recently and as a result, my baseline (what I can safely do in a day) has increased and I am finding that I am able to do a bit more. I am talking basic things; I am becoming more functional around the house and moving around more than I previously did. Simple tasks that I used to struggle with are also becoming easier for me to achieve.

I still spend a good part of the day resting, but I am now consistently doing this on the sofa rather than in bed. Things are going well for me, so long as I stay within my limitations. However, as I am so de-conditioned, doing more has meant that my muscles can get extra sore. While I feel part of this is a normal kind of soreness that anyone could expect after a period of convalescence, I’ve also noticed an increase in my fibromyalgia pain on some days.

I have to hold my hands up and say I’ve been guilty of letting some things slide that I know help me to control my fibromyalgia pain. I have been choosing to use my energy to do the things I want to do and have not been keeping up with things like stretching, yoga and Qigong. While this is fine to do on some days, it’s not a good habit for me to get into. I count these activities as self-care as I know that they help to reduce my pain and keep me feeling as well as possible. It’s easy to let self-care go a little as you start to feel better but times like this serve as a reminder that they are important to keep up. They are an important part of helping me to feel well.

Though getting back to regularly practising these activities will be helpful, I’ve also been exploring alternative products that I can use to help ease my pain when it does become problematic. One product that I have been using for the past month has been The Fay Farm ‘Warming CBD Muscle Rub’*. Below is my review of this product and if you keep reading, I have a great offer to share with you too.

The Fay Farm ‘Warming CBD Muscle Rub’

The Fay Farm is a family run business started by Stacy Anderson & Michael Yocco. They create natural body care products and several of the ingredients they use are grown right on their own farm. Their best selling ‘Warming CBD Muscle Rub’ has been created for sufferers of rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, muscle and joint stiffness, plus it can also be used on strained, sprained and tired muscles. This sounded perfect for my needs.

It is available in 3 different sizes and is made with organic ingredients: Sunflower oil, castor oil, olive oil, beeswax, shea butter, menthol, camphor, cayenne pepper, arnica, essential oils of rosemary, eucalyptus, peppermint, ginger, cassia and clove.

I was very kindly sent the ‘Warming CBD Muscle Rub’ to try in exchange for my honest and unbiased feedback through the Chronic Illness bloggers network. Having read positive things about Cannabidiol oil (CBD oil) with regards to pain relief, I was very interested in trying this product. CBD oil acts as a pain reliever by reducing inflammation. In addition, it can also help to improve the symptoms of anxiety and depression.

I have been using the ‘Warming CBD Muscle Rub’ for around a month now and, though I don’t need to use it every day, I have turned to it on the days where my pain has crept up above my tolerance level. This is typically because I have tested my boundaries, overdone it or not kept up with my self-care.

My thoughts on The Fay Farm ‘Warming CBD Muscle Rub’

When I first saw the product, my first thought was, “Oh no, not one of those tricky tins.” However, I was pleasantly surprised to find out the tin had a screw on lid that was super easy to remove. The orange salve has a menthol scent but it is not unpleasant; my mum actually loves how it smells! I gave her one of the small tins to use as she can experience pain in one of her arms and she has been enjoying using it.

The salve is easy to apply and a little goes a long way so it lasts well too. You can reapply it as often as you need to throughout the day and it is easily carried around in your handbag/pocket for times when you are on the go. The product absorbs well into the skin but it is slightly greasy, which I’m not so keen on. However, on the plus side, it hasn’t stained any of my clothes.

I have used it on my neck, across my shoulders, my back and on my hip. I have to say, unlike the name, I find the product to have a cooling sensation on the skin. I personally would prefer it to be a warming sensation as I find heat more comforting but that’s just nitpicking on my part as the product absolutely works! In fact, I was actually amazed at how quickly it gave me pain relief.

It greatly reduces any pain I feel in my neck, back and shoulders and it even helps with my hip pain. It doesn’t ease my hip pain as much as other areas but it brings it down to a more manageable level, which is brilliant as far as I’m concerned as nothing else even touches it.

My overall opinion is that the ‘Warming CBD oil’ is a brilliant product in how it works. I feel it works best on muscle pain over joint pain but it definitely helps to relieve both. When you are in a lot of pain, anything that helps to reduce it (even if it doesn’t take it away completely) is most welcome! However, despite how effective it is, I don’t use it as often as I maybe should because of the cooling sensation and the greasiness of the salve.

But, I have seen on The Fay Farm website that they also do a ‘Healing Hemp CBD lotion’. I would be interested in trying this to see if I preferred using it, particularly as I use lotion every day anyway due to having dry skin. So perhaps this would kill two birds with one stone: offer pain relief and help with my dry skin?

  1. Hi there! Fellow fibro/cfs warrior here. I live in Texas. I have tried both the salve and the lotion from Fay Farm. I would highly encourage you to get the lotion. I love it and use it on a daily basis. The salve is great too but I limit its use due to the greasy factor. The lotion is a godsend. I first learned of it over on Counting my Spoons blog. Glad to see the product is becoming known overseas too! If you try the lotion please update as I would love to hear what you think.

    1. Hey Suzanne, that’s awesome. Thanks for letting me know! The lotion sounds like it would be great for me.
