Have you ever considered switching to natural skin care? Found yourself wondering what the best natural skin care products are?

I’ve been exactly where you are. Read on to discover the natural skin care brands I use and to learn about my natural skin care routine for sensitive skin.

A Note On Switching To Natural Skin Care

Personally, I believe it is important to be conscious of what I put on my skin. After all, the skin is the body’s largest organ.

I, therefore, feel it makes sense to be aware of what beauty products I use. Especially since I am recovering from chronic illnesses.

Unfortunately, the world of natural skin care can feel overwhelming, with conflicting advice on what ingredients are okay to use versus which should be avoided.

Not only that, but labelling can actually be unclear and misleading.

In an ideal world, we would use all natural skin care products made by ourselves from natural ingredients. However, this doesn’t suit everyone and some of us prefer the convenience of shop bought products.

Establishing a Simple Natural Skin Care Routine

A few months ago, I set out set out to create a simple natural skin care routine for myself. I had been using natural skin care products for a few years but hadn’t really put much effort into establishing a routine.

In other words, for most of my life, I’ve been a wash my face then slap on some moisturiser kind of gal.

Recently, though, this just hasn’t been cutting it.

A few months ago, I found myself in the position of being unhappy with the appearance of my sensitive skin, which was looking dull and dry.

I decided I needed to make more of an effort and invest in a natural skin care routine. Personally, I wanted to find some shop bought products that were convenient to use but also good for my health.

After doing some research, I settled on a few products to try.

These have thankfully made a big difference to the appearance of my skin and it is now looking much healthier. I thought I would share my routine with you as I know I found it helpful to get recommendations from others.

The products listed in this post are ones I am happy to use that are working well for me. I always encourage people to do their own research to find the best products for them.

One thing I will say before I start is that if you are sensitive to scents (regardless of if they come from natural oils), I’d recommend checking out Green People products instead of the ones listed below.

Cleansing

I switched out my usual facewash for Neal’s Yard Remedies Rejuvenating Frankincense Refining Cleanser on the recommendation of an online pal.

I’m always a bit wary to try new products as sometimes sensitive skin care products can still irritate my skin.

However, I had heard good things about the brand Neal’s Yard Remedies who are a natural and organic skin care brand.

This cleanser is actually suitable for all skin types. But, I find it especially good for my sensitive, dry skin.

It doesn’t irritate my skin at all and leaves it feeling nice and soft after use. I have definitely noticed an improvement in the comfort of my skin too.

After using my usual face wash, my skin would feel quite tight and I’d need to moisturise straight away. I no longer get this feeling.

I guess my face wash was stripping the moisture from my skin, whereas this cleanser is much gentler and doesn’t do this.

I use this cleanser every day and it’s also great for removing make-up. I loved it so much I put it on my Christmas list (and was stoked to receive it).

It’s definitely one I will continue to repurchase.

Exfoliating

I have to admit to being guilty of not exfoliating my skin regularly. As I said above, I’ve very much been a wash my face then moisturise gal for most of my life.

The reason is that I found most exfoliating products irritated my sensitive skin. However, I was basically told I need to exfoliate when I had an accidental facial a few months ago

(I was only meant to get a massage on a spa day with my mum but the therapist got muddled up and I got a mini-facial too… which turned out to be super enlightening!).

I was told that I needed to exfoliate my skin so that my moisturiser could work properly and help alleviate my dry skin. She advised that I use a chemical exfoliator rather than a physical exfoliating product.

I had avoided chemical exfoliating products simply because the word “chemical” was off-putting. It didn’t sound very gentle or appropriate for my sensitive skin.

How wrong was I. For I now know that there are actually natural enzyme products that do the same job.

I have been using the Andalou Natural’s BioActive 8 Berry Fruit Enzyme Mask twice per week and love it. My skin looks visibly brighter and more glowy after using it.

And, it’s done the trick of allowing my moisturiser to do its job too.

Moisturising

Speaking of which, I have been using two moisturising products. The first is Glow in a Bottle from Beauty by Ane, which is a facial oil.

I had never used a facial oil before but on a few recommendations from Instagram pals, I decided to look into them.

Glow in a bottle contains eleven natural plant oils and it smells amazing. It is lovely and light and I feel like I am nourishing my skin when I use it.

However, when I first started using it, I found it wasn’t hydrating enough for my dry skin.

Therefore, I started using Neal’s Yard Almond Moisturiser on top to add some extra hydration to my skin.

This is quite a thick moisturiser and takes a little work to absorb into the skin.

When it first goes on, it does appear white and I had expected it to feel heavy because of this but it actually doesn’t!

I would definitely recommend this for dry, sensitive skin as it’s super hydrating and doesn’t irritate the skin.

I’m finding as time goes on and the health of my skin improves,  I can use Glow in a Bottle once per day on its own and only need to use the moisturiser on top in the evening.

I think Glow in a Bottle will be perfect for me in the summer months (though an SPF will need to go on top). In the meantime, it’s adding some extra goodness into my skin along with the Neal’s Yard moisturiser.

Side note: I also use a few drops of Glow in a Bottle in my hair once I’ve styled it and it works great for taming it and adding shine.

A Noticeable Difference in My SKin

This natural skin care routine has been simple but effective in re-hydrating my dry, sensitive skin. I feel like my pores now appear less visible and my skin has gone from looking dull to glowing and healthy.

I’d definitely recommend switching to natural skin care products and I hope you find my recommendations useful.

If you have any natural skin care recommendations, I’d love to hear about your favourites in the comments. And, if you would like to purchase any of the products I use and recommend you can find them all on Amazon.
