Today, I am sharing that I have been featured on the Tick Boot Camp podcast. If you would like to listen to my interview it is Episode #31 and you will find the podcast on Apple Podcasts, Google Play Music and Spotify.
In the episode, I share my chronic illness story and talk about my defining moments and what helped me most.
What Is Tick Boot Camp?
Tick Boot Camp is a website and podcast founded by Matt Sabatello and Richard Johannesen who are based in New York. Unfortunately, both men are very aware of how one tick bite can lead to years of suffering and chronic illness.
Like me, Matt fell sick and after two years of agony and debilitating symptoms, he was diagnosed with Lyme Disease. Even after receiving treatment he is not yet fully recovered.
Richard was also bitten by a tick but, thanks to being aware of Matt’s experience, he sought quick medical intervention.
Realising how poor public awareness is of Lyme Disease and how so many are being failed by the medical system, Matt and Richard established Tick Boot Camp.
Through their website and podcast, they are raising awareness by sharing stories from people affected by Lyme. They also aim to educate the public on how to protect themselves and prevent Lyme Disease.
Matt and Rich found and approached me through Instagram to ask me if I would like to be on their podcast. As a natural introvert who gets super anxious about any form of public speaking, my gut reaction was to say no.
However, I think it’s important to sometimes step outside of our comfort zone and I knew this was for a good cause. It’s great that the Tick Boot Camp podcast is giving a voice to those of us in the chronic illness community who have been affected by Lyme.
It was challenging for me to speak about my story. This may sound contradictory since I have a blog, but speaking publicly about my story somehow felt more vulnerable.
And from a practical point of view, it’s hard to condense 8 years of chronic illness into a half-hour interview.
However, Matt and Rich were great hosts and quickly put me at ease and helped me to focus on the most significant and defining parts of my story.
It was a great experience being on the podcast and I hope that sharing my story helps others in some small way.
