I was a bridesmaid at my brother’s wedding in June and my bouquet was packed full of gorgeous eucalyptus! I absolutely adore eucalyptus and I was inspired to create not one– but two– eucalyptus watercolour paintings.
The second of which, I videoed from start to finish so stick around if you want to see the timelapse.
FRAMING EUCALYPTUS Watercolour PRINTS FOR MY BEDROOM
The two species of eucalyptus I painted were Eucalyptus Populus and Eucalyptus nicholii.
I painted the first with the intention of enlarging and framing it for my bedroom. In the end, I liked it so much, I decided to create another eucalyptus watercolour painting to pair it with.
If you like them as much as me, I have prints of both available to purchase individually or as a set of 2 in my online shop. They are available in various sizes.

MY EUCALYPTUS WATERCOLOUR PAINTING PROCESS

My intention was to create minimalistic paintings that used the natural transparency of watercolour to capture the beautiful quality of the eucalyptus leaf.
I mixed a muted colour palette and used the wet on dry technique to first paint the stems. Essentially, this is where I painted with wet paint onto the dry paper.
I added a couple of layers of paint until I was happy with the values. With watercolour, you work light to dark and I always prefer to work in layers and build up colour.
Next, I used the wet-in-wet technique to paint the leaves. This is where you first pre-wet the paper with clean water and then add paint.
When you apply watercolour to pre-wet paper, the paint spreads where the water is and it creates beautiful, soft blendings.
Not only can you add paint, but you will also see me occasionally dropping in clean water to maintain lighter areas on the leaf.
Painting Supplies Used:
- Fabriano hot pressed watercolour paper

I am very new to video and would welcome any tips in the comments below (my head tends to pop into the shot at present so I need to rethink my set up, so any help is most welcome!).
