3rd Wedding Anniversary

We first met when I was at university in Aberdeen. You were a friend of a friend and had come up for a night out. I immediately knew I liked you and I believe you thought I was “pretty damn awesome” too. Being shy, it took the intervention of a couple of friends to bring us together a few weeks later but we have been inseparable ever since. Though I continue to annoy you by telling everyone I meet that you still haven’t asked me out to this day!

Marriage wasn’t anything I had ever considered; I’d never had any desire to get married. It just wasn’t something that was on my radar. I don’t know what came over me that day I told you I would marry you when I was 27– I guess that’s just typical me though, forever dreaming and planning our future. Why 27? I have no idea, I think I had some 5 year plan in my head. I can’t even remember what that involved! I think it was secretly something you had always kind of wanted. You had planned to propose in Italy but you couldn’t wait. I remember how excited we were driving home and surprising everyone. It turned out that we got married when I was 25. I now like to joke that if we had waited you might have changed your mind!

It’s crazy to think about how much life has changed in the space of three years since our wedding day. It was all change back then– we were looking to move back home, I had qualified in my job and you were going into the second year of your degree. It was all new beginnings in a way. Little did we know of the challenges that would face us in the years to come.

When we got married our relationship was already pretty solid. Though we’ve had our ups and downs, like anyone else, I can only say that this has strengthened over the years. It’s hard to put into words but I know you will totally get what I mean. You have had to go above and beyond what anyone would expect to do as a husband. Chronic illness is a funny thing. It can put a lot of stress on a relationship but in so many ways it has brought us closer together. You support me, challenge me and help me through it all. You make me laugh, smile and help me to stay positive. I couldn’t do this without you.

It’s over 10 years now since we first met and 3 since I became your wife. It’s the start of another exciting chapter now and I couldn’t be more proud of you! Happy anniversary Ross, I love you more than the moon! (I should probably clarify that this is an in-joke and I’m not a total dork… well sort of).
