On Sunday I was kindly invited by Joe Blogs Network and Hillarys Blinds to attend the last of four UK-wide craft workshops at the Butterfly and the Pig in Glasgow . As I love all things crafty, I was excited to attend. My day didn’t start out too well as I managed to throw my back out in the morning (aren’t us spoonies particularly talented at doing things like this!) and then we got stuck in traffic for 40 minutes on our way through to Glasgow. I was beginning to feel like karma was against me but thankfully we had left early and arrived in Glasgow just in time and I went on to have a fun afternoon.

Guided by The Crafty Hen, we made two projects using beautiful fabrics from Hillarys Blinds new made-to-measure blinds range. First up was a notebook cover. I chose a really cool fabric and got to work. It was relatively simple to make and involved folding the fabric a few times and then stitching the corners. Many people chose to adorn their notebook covers with ribbon but I decided to stay minimalist, simply gluing on a couple of buttons.

We were all then treated to cake. I thought I would have to miss out so was very happy to learn I could have gluten-free and dairy-free cakes. I got three taster cakes, which were all delicious! After our break we moved onto our final project: hand-sewing a 3D bird. I chose two contrasting fabrics and began constructing my bird. My hand sewing skills are rather lacking (my shaky hands don’t help much) and I never managed to get my bird finished by the end of the afternoon unfortunately; it’s tail was left unfinished. I’ll admit that I ended up unpicking all my stitches and then resewing my bird using my sewing machine at home. It turned out really well in the end.

It was a fun afternoon meeting some other bloggers and getting crafty. It was the first time I’ve really done anything in a while so it was another positive milestone for me. I’ve been feeling a bit poorly these past couple of days but it was totally worth it.

What fun! And how motivational! And your hair is totally cool. π
I’ve been trying to get out more too. I used to be afraid of the consequences to my body, but I’ve discovered going out and doing fun stuff does more good for my mental well-being than the pain it brings.
Aw thanks π I have to say I do love rockin’ purple hair. You are so right. I think it has to be a balancing act between what’s best for your physical and mental health. Sometimes you just have to push yourself but thankfully things seem to be getting that bit easier for me (probably jinxed myself by saying that!). I hope you are doing well.
So glad you made it out, and I got to say hi! I know what a sacrifice these things can be – I guess, if doing something is going to confine you to bed for three days regardless, you may as well make that “something” something amazing x
Was nice to say hello to a fellow glitterati! Absolutely, sometimes you just have to go for it & realise the consequences will be worth it π
